ROBERT SAYWITZ (b. 1974; Lives and works in Brooklyn, NY)
My goal as an artist is to create images that tell a story. A composition, whether it be a painting, drawing, photograph or design, is a captured moment that has the ability to tell a story and evoke an emotional response from the viewer. While artists use different tools to bring this moment to life, at the heart of this creative process is the idea. My intention is to build images infused with emotion that communicate a magnification and intensification of our every day life experiences. The images I create represent glimpses of how I perceive the places, people and sounds within myself and the world around me.

Finding inspiration in my environment and the world of music, each piece is rendered in a medium that best captures the personality of the subject. I believe that the creative process of the visual artist closely mirrors that of the musician. Both adhere to laws of rhythm, harmony, tone and composition, while utilizing elements within a specific medium to create original and evocative stories. Just as the musician forms a composition through the arrangement of notes, melodies and silence, the visual artist composes a story using form, color and negative space. As the musician admires and learns from other musicians while creating their unique personal style, I find myself continuously appreciating and learning from other artists across all disciplines.
